DRC : a missed meeting with star Fally Ipupa in Goma

a missed meeting with star Fally Ipupa in Goma provokes the anger of young people

In the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the concert by the Congolese Rumba artist, Fally Ipupa, which was to be held on Friday August 16 in the city of Goma, did not finally take place. Expected by hundreds of Gomatracians from the afternoon until late in the evening, Fally Ipupa did not come. A situation which provoked the anger and indignation of his fans.

It is a dream that has turned into a nightmare for hundreds of young people in Goma, a city located in the east of the DRC. Having come to enjoy the Rumba with their favorite star, they did not even see the shadow of Fally Ipupa at the Iihusi Kituku space, to the west of the city, where the meeting had been arranged. After five hours of waiting, this missed appointment provoked anger and indignation among young people.

“We arrive there, but the artist does not go on stage.” “Really, we are disappointed.” “He disappointed us so much. We only listened to sound system music.”

Security: reason for cancellation of the concert
Attendees paid between $5 and $20 to access the concert venue. Ronsard Kamwanya Bora, one of the organizers, says the concert was canceled for security reasons.

“It was already dark, the police judged it good for the safety of all of us, both the artist and our population, to cancel the concert, because we could no longer manage people beyond those hours. Anyone who has their badge can return to Iihusi village tomorrow so they can be reimbursed.”

On August 15, Fally Ipupa held a concert in the prestigious Serena hotel in front of a hundred Gomatraciens without any incident. Fally Ipupa should perform in front of his audience, five years after his last appearance in Goma.
